Nepali Police Report: Over 3,000 Drug Peddlers Apprehended in 6 Months

In a concerted effort to combat the proliferation of narcotics, Nepali law enforcement agencies have apprehended a total of 3,045 individuals over the past six months for offenses related to narcotic drugs.

The Nepali Police Central News Room revealed that during the first half of the current financial year, a comprehensive crackdown led to the arrest of 3,450 individuals involved in drug use, peddling, and other drug-related crimes.

Among those apprehended, 2,758 are Nepali men, 144 are Nepali women, while 133 men and 10 women are foreign nationals. Legal proceedings have been initiated against 1,960 of the arrested individuals.

The offenses include smuggling, trading, and transporting banned narcotics such as marijuana, hashish, heroin, opium, and cocaine. Significant quantities of these prohibited substances were seized during the arrests, according to police reports.

In a recent operation, three individuals were apprehended today with 285 kilograms of marijuana from the IT Park road of Panauti Municipality-5. The suspects were identified as Buddhaman Tamang of Bidur Municipality-11, Nuwakot, Sanjit Tamang (20) from Ramechhap Municipality-8, and 53-year-old Bimala Tamang.

Furthermore, in a separate incident today, law enforcement authorities arrested two individuals in Nagadhunga, Chandragiri Municipality-2, in possession of 76 grams of heroin.

The relentless efforts of the Nepali police reflect a commitment to curbing the illicit drug trade and safeguarding communities from the detrimental effects of drug abuse.
