Oli Urges PM Dahal to Resign

KP Sharma Oli, Chairman of the CPN-UML, met with Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal at Baluwatar this morning to discuss the formation of a new government. During the meeting, Oli conveyed that the Nepali Congress and CPN-UML have reached an agreement to jointly lead a new government.

The agreement stipulates that the CPN-UML will assume leadership for the first eighteen months, with KP Sharma Oli serving as Prime Minister initially. The UML will oversee nine key ministries, including the Finance Ministry. In contrast, the Nepali Congress will manage ten ministries, including the Home Ministry.

Oli urged PM Dahal to resign promptly to facilitate the transition to the new government.

However, CPN Maoist Center has decided that Prime Minister ‘Prachanda’ will not resign amidst political upheaval. Following an emergency meeting held at the Prime Minister’s residence in Baluwatar on Tuesday, Maoist officials resolved to confront the impending vote of confidence without stepping down.

Secretary Devendra Paudel clarified after the meeting, stating, “There is no question of the Prime Minister resigning due to fatigue. As per the constitution, it has been decided to face a vote of confidence in parliament.”

Regarding the timing of the confidence vote, Paudel mentioned that since the coalition partners have not withdrawn their support, scheduling for the vote remains undecided.
