‘One Tree for the Name of Mother’ Campaign Gains Momentum

In celebration of World Environment Day 2024, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign, encouraging individuals to plant trees in honor of their mothers. The initiative has quickly gained widespread support, inspiring actions across borders.

The campaign’s message of environmental stewardship resonated in Nepal, where Ain Bahadur Shahi Thakuri, Minister for Forests and Environment, Government of Nepal, planted a Nili Gulmohar sapling at the Embassy of India in Kathmandu. This act was mirrored by Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, who also planted a Nili Gulmohar sapling at the Embassy complex on August 11, 2024. These gestures highlighted the shared commitment of both nations to environmental conservation.

Members of the Indian diaspora and India-Nepal Friendship associations have actively participated in the campaign, planting saplings to promote environmental protection and sustainability. Their efforts underscore the cross-cultural and international support that the initiative has garnered.

In line with the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign, the Embassy of India in Nepal celebrated India’s 78th Independence Day by planting 78 saplings on its premises. Embassy officials, their families, and children came together for the event, reflecting a collective dedication to environmental sustainability and global well-being.

The ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign continues to inspire individuals and communities to take meaningful action, emphasizing our shared responsibility in protecting the environment for future generations.
