Parliamentary Hearing Committee Rejects Ram Krishna Bhattarai’s Ambassadorial Nomination
On Tuesday, the Parliamentary Hearing Committee of the Federal Parliament unanimously disapproved the nomination of Ram Krishna Bhattarai for the position of ambassador to Sri Lanka. Bhattarai’s nomination was withdrawn after he failed to provide the required academic documents.
The committee had sought Bhattarai’s Bachelor’s degree certificate to confirm his eligibility for the role. However, Bhattarai submitted a withdrawal application, stating that he was unable to furnish the necessary documents. Based on his request, the committee unanimously rejected the government’s recommendation.
Committee member Shyam Ghimire explained that the disapproval followed Bhattarai’s inability to meet the academic criteria. In its decision, the committee emphasized the need for the government to adhere to the principles of inclusion when making political appointments. Additionally, it urged the government to carefully assess the academic qualifications and conduct of candidates before nominating them for key positions.
According to the rules governing ambassadorial appointments, a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree is required for eligibility. While Bhattarai’s nomination was rejected, the committee has already endorsed the names of 16 other individuals proposed as ambassadors to various countries.
