Peace Corps Deputy Director in Nepal
David E. White Jr., Deputy Director of the Peace Corps, has embarked on a significant five-day journey to Nepal, aimed at bolstering existing partnerships and exploring opportunities for program expansion.
During his visit, Deputy Director White will engage with government officials and representatives from civil society, expressing gratitude for their enduring support of the Peace Corps program. Discussions will revolve around plans to broaden Peace Corps initiatives in Nepal, reflecting the organization’s commitment to sustainable development and mutual cooperation.
A highlight of the trip will be the swearing-in ceremony for ten newly arrived Peace Corps Response Volunteers, marking the inception of this initiative in Nepal. These volunteers, with specialized skills and experience, will undertake short-term, high-impact assignments tailored to address local needs.
Deputy Director White will also connect with current Peace Corps Volunteers stationed across Nepal, gaining insights into their ongoing projects in key sectors such as agriculture, education, and health. These volunteers immerse themselves in local communities, learning languages and fostering meaningful engagement to drive positive change.
With the addition of the new group, the Peace Corps presence in Nepal will expand to fifty volunteers spread across eight districts, reinforcing the organization’s longstanding commitment to the country. Since its establishment in 1962, the Peace Corps has left an indelible mark on Nepal, with nearly 4,000 American volunteers contributing to diverse sectors nationwide.
