PM Dahal Engages with Nepali Diaspora in Uganda During NAM Summit

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, leading a Nepali delegation to attend the 19th Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), held a significant meeting with the Nepali diaspora in Uganda. The Prime Minister, who arrived in Kampala on Thursday evening, expressed his delight at meeting and interacting with the vibrant Nepali community in Uganda.

Addressing the gathering, PM Dahal emphasized the importance of addressing the concerns of Nepalis living abroad for the progress of the country. He remarked, “I got an opportunity to know the sufferings of Nepalis living in African countries,” underlining the significance of understanding and addressing the challenges faced by the Nepali diaspora.

Minister for Foreign Affairs NP Saud, who accompanied the Prime Minister, urged Nepali citizens in Uganda to work towards uplifting the nation’s dignity, considering themselves as non-residential ambassadors of Nepal. The Chairman of the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) Uganda chapter, Rama Aryal, expressed the community’s elation at receiving the Prime Minister and acknowledged the PM’s guardianship.

Ramesh Kandel, the patron of NRNA Uganda chapter, revealed that approximately 350 Nepalis are actively contributing to Uganda’s development, construction, and trade communities. The Nepali community in Uganda, according to Kandel, is playing a crucial role in fostering bilateral relations between the two nations.

The meeting was attended by PM Dahal’s daughter Ganga Dahal, Foreign Affairs Minister Saud, PM’s foreign affairs advisor Dr. Rupak Sapkota, Foreign Secretary Sewa Lamsal, and other senior officials of the Nepal government.

The 19th NAM Summit, themed ‘deepening global cooperation for shared global affluence,’ is currently underway in Kampala. PM Dahal is scheduled to address the Summit, which will focus on the ministerial report, review the implementation status of the 18th NAM Summit, and pass the Kampala Declaration.

As a founding member of NAM, Nepal has actively participated in the Summit since its establishment in 1961, reflecting its commitment to the fundamental foreign principle of non-alignment. The Summit provides an opportunity for Nepal to strengthen global cooperation and promote shared prosperity.
