PM Oli Clarifies NEA Arrears Will Be Collected Without Halting Industry Operations

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has clarified that the arrears owed to Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) from dedicated feeders and trunk line power supply will be collected in full, without leaving any amount unpaid. Addressing questions from MPs during today’s House of Representatives meeting, Prime Minister Oli emphasized that while the government is committed to collecting the arrears, this will not be done by shutting down industries but by keeping them operational.

“The government is clear on this; the arrears will be collected without cutting off the power supply lines,” the Prime Minister stated, dismissing concerns that industries might be forced to close due to unpaid electricity bills.

He also refuted claims circulating on social media that suggest a conflict between the government and NEA leadership regarding the collection of tariffs. “There is no difference between the government and the NEA leadership,” he affirmed, noting that any notion of the government exempting these tariffs is misleading.

In addition, Prime Minister Oli announced that the government is working on developing a system where decisions on files requiring action in any ministry will be made within three days. He also mentioned that steps are being taken to link national identity cards and driver’s licenses to the citizen app, as part of broader efforts to streamline administrative processes.
