PM Prachanda Holds Consultations with Top Leaders

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has convened a meeting with the prominent leaders of nationally recognized political parties to deliberate on various pressing issues, including the ongoing impasse in the Federal Parliament.

Scheduled for 12:30 PM today at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers in Singha Durbar, the meeting aims to engage in discussions concerning current political developments and the prevailing challenges within the nation, as confirmed by Govinda Acharya, the Press Advisor to the Prime Minister.

The major opposition party, the CPN (UML), has been disrupting the proceedings of both chambers of the Federal Parliament – the House of Representatives and the National Assembly – since July 26. This obstruction has resulted in the stagnation of crucial legislative proposals awaiting parliamentary approval.

Key figures invited to participate in the meeting include Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, UML Chairperson KP Sharma Oli, Rastriya Swatantra Party President Rabi Lamichhane, Rastriya Prajatantra Party Chairperson Rajendra Lingden, Janata Samajbadi Party Chairperson Upendra Yadav, and Janamat Party Chairperson CK Raut.

The Prime Minister has taken the initiative to find solutions to the ongoing parliamentary deadlock. The CPN (UML) has been blocking parliamentary proceedings, demanding the establishment of a high-level investigation commission to probe a gold smuggling scandal. This scandal emerged when the Department of Revenue Investigation seized gold on July 19 that had been illicitly brought through Tribhuvan International Airport without complying with customs regulations and security protocols at Sinamangal, a local area.

The primary opposition party insists on the formation of a robust inquiry committee to investigate the gold smuggling case. In response, the government and ruling coalition parties have rejected this demand, emphasizing that relevant government agencies responsible for investigations will address the matter.
