PM to Address Global Community on Nepal’s Climate Change Measures at COP28
Kathmandu, November 30: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has expressed his commitment to apprise the global community of the significant measures Nepal has undertaken to address and mitigate the impacts of climate change during the upcoming COP28. The Prime Minister is presently in the United Arab Emirates to participate in the 28th Conference of the Parties (COP28).
Speaking at a reception hosted by Nepali Ambassador to the UAE, Tej Bahadur Chhetri, at the Nepal Embassy on Thursday afternoon, Prime Minister Dahal emphasized that his presence at COP28 is not merely to request assistance but to assert Nepal’s rightful stance as a country particularly vulnerable to the adverse effects of climate change.
Prime Minister Prachanda articulated his intent to strongly advocate for financial and technical assistance as compensation for Nepal’s efforts in combating climate change during the COP28 discussions.
In a separate statement, the Prime Minister disclosed that comprehensive preparations are underway to facilitate voting for Nepalis residing across the globe in upcoming elections. He underscored that a robust democracy requires extending voting rights to Nepali citizens abroad.
Ambassador Chhetri, on the occasion, highlighted the potential for significant contributions to Nepal’s economic development through enhanced collaboration with the UAE in areas such as trade, tourism, and technology.
Accompanied by a Nepali delegation under Prime Minister Dahal’s leadership, the team arrived in the UAE earlier today to participate in COP28, where Nepal aims to strengthen its commitment to combating climate change and advocate for global solidarity in addressing the challenges posed by climate-related impacts.
