Pokhara Hosts Odissi Dance Event on Holi Eve Celebrating India-Nepal Cultural Connect

Pokhara witnessed a vibrant celebration of cultural harmony as it hosted a spectacular event featuring Indian Classical Odissi dance and Nepali folk dance on the eve of Holi. Organized by the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre of the Embassy of India, Kathmandu, in collaboration with the Nepal Tourism Board and Pokhara Tourism Council, the event aimed to foster deeper ties between India and Nepal through shared cultural experiences.

The Chief Minister of Gandaki, Surendra Raj Pandey, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, joined by dignitaries from the Gandaki Provincial Government and Kaski Local Government. Chief Minister Pandey emphasized the cultural affinities between Nepal and India, lauding the event as a testament to the rich diversity of the two nations.

Avinash Singh, First Secretary of the Embassy of India, underscored the enduring cultural connections between India and Nepal and commended Pokhara’s designation as the tourism capital of Nepal.

The mesmerizing Odissi dance performances, featuring classical pieces such as Sritakamala, Sakhi He, Dasavatara, and Vasant Bahar: Colour of Spring, captivated the audience with their graceful movements and expressive storytelling.

Leading the Nepali folk dance segment was Niscal Udas, accompanied by talented musicians Nissan Shreshtha, Bishesh Tamrakar, Sambodhi Udas, Samrat Bhari, and Ayush Shreshtha, who brought the vibrant energy of traditional Nepali culture to life with the dynamic Lakhey Dance.

The event, held at Barahi Ghat, Lakeside Pokhara, drew an enthusiastic crowd of over 800 attendees, further enhancing the bonds of friendship and cultural exchange between India and Nepal.

Prior to the Pokhara event, the Odissi dance group led by  Kakali Bose had enthralled audiences in Kathmandu on March 22, 2024. The troupe is scheduled to continue spreading the joy of classical dance, with upcoming performances in Lumbini on March 24, Birgunj on March 26, and Dharan on March 27, 2024.
