Two individuals, Laxman Darji and Deepak Bahadur Chhetri, both 42 years old, were apprehended by police from a location in Simlachaur on suspicion of threatening a businessman over the phone and demanding a substantial sum. The arrests were made following a complaint lodged by Prakash Dip Gaire, the owner of Sachai Sewa Kendra in Pokhara Metropolitan City-16 Lamachaur and the central president of Sachai Kendra Nepal.
According to Kaski Superintendent of Police Man Kumar Thapa, the suspects allegedly demanded a staggering Rs 5 crore from Gaire through phone calls and text messages. The victim reported the extortion attempt to the authorities, expressing concern for his safety and that of his family.
During a press conference held on Thursday, Thapa revealed that Darji and Chhetri threatened to harm Gaire and his family if the demanded amount, initially communicated as Rs 50 million in Hindi language, was not paid promptly. Prompt action was taken following the complaint, leading to the arrest of the suspects and the seizure of the mobile phone and SIM card used in the threatening communication.
The police have assured the public that a thorough investigation is underway, and the suspects will be dealt with according to the law.
