Preliminary Squad for ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifiers Announced

The initial team of Nepal for the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifiers, scheduled to be held in Zimbabwe next month, has been announced. Coach Monty Desai revealed a 22-member preliminary squad for the tournament. The squad includes players like Kushal Bhurtel, Aasif Sheikh, Gyanendra Mall, and Rohit Poudel, who will serve as the captain. Other notable players in the squad are Kushal Malla, Aarif Sheikh, Dipendra Singh Airee, and Sandeep Lamichhane.

The team’s training is set to commence tomorrow, aiming to enhance the players’ skills and boost their morale over the course of a week. After the intensive training starting on Tuesday, the final 15-member national team to represent Nepal in the World Cup Qualifiers will be announced.

To prepare for the ICC Cricket World Cup qualifiers, the Nepali national cricket team will travel to South Africa next week for final preparations. The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) plans to send the team to South Africa on May 31. Before departing for South Africa, the team will undergo a week-long training session at home, following which the 15-member national team will be announced.

In South Africa, Nepal will have a ten-day preparation period before heading to Zimbabwe a week before the tournament begins. The World Cup qualifiers will feature ten teams, including four test nations. Former champions West Indies and Sri Lanka, along with Ireland and Zimbabwe, will participate in the tournament. Additionally, Oman and Scotland have secured their places in the qualifiers from League-2, alongside Nepal.
