Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli Advocates for Open Dialogue to Resolve Nepal-India Issues
Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli expressed confidence that the ongoing issues between Nepal and India can be resolved through open dialogue and tolerance. Speaking at the launch of the book ‘International Watercourses Law: A Perspective on Nepal-India Cooperation’ by former administrator Surya Nath Upadhyay at the PM’s residence, Oli acknowledged the existence of some problems between the two countries but noted that the Eminent Persons Group (EPG) was formed with the consensus of both Prime Ministers to address these issues.
Oli emphasized that the EPG report has not yet been submitted or received, but he is hopeful that India will find an appropriate time to accept it, which would facilitate discussions on pending matters. He highlighted the importance of engaging in open conversations with neighboring countries and avoiding the misuse of the term “geopolitics” to justify selfish actions.
PM Oli also pointed out that international relations should be managed through bilateral discussions and consensus, not unilateral decisions, especially when it comes to shared resources. He commended Upadhyay’s book for its intellectual contribution to the discourse on Nepal-India cooperation, noting that it aligns with international norms and encourages further debate on the subject.
Constitutional expert Dr. Bipin Adhikari, who reviewed the book, underscored the importance of dialogue with neighboring countries to harness Nepal’s vast water resources. The event was organized by Jalshrot Vikas Sanstha.
