Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli Seeks Increased Swiss Investment for Nepal’s Development

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has called on the Swiss government to bolster its foreign direct investment in Nepal to support the country’s economic development and prosperity.

In a meeting with Swiss Ambassador to Nepal Daniel Meuli at the Prime Minister’s residence in Baluwatar today, Prime Minister Oli highlighted the crucial role that foreign aid can play in accelerating Nepal’s growth. He emphasized that strengthening democratic state structures in Nepal has been influenced by Switzerland’s practices, contributing to a more inclusive democratic framework.

Prime Minister Oli assured that the Nepalese government is committed to implementing reforms aimed at boosting foreign direct investment. He noted the enthusiastic participation of 50 countries at the recent Nepal Investment Summit, reflecting growing international interest in Nepal.

The Prime Minister expressed his hope for increased support from development partners, as Nepal aims to graduate from a least-developed country to a developing country by 2026 and to achieve middle-income status by 2030.

He thanked the Swiss government for its ongoing support in Nepal’s development efforts, including contributions to COVID-19 prevention and the peace process.

In response, Swiss Ambassador Meuli congratulated Prime Minister Oli on his tenure and extended best wishes for his continued success. He assured that Switzerland remains committed to ongoing collaboration and cooperation with Nepal.
