Kathmandu, July 21 — Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has successfully secured a vote of confidence from the House of Representatives. In today’s session, a majority of MPs voted in favor of the proposal submitted by Prime Minister Oli, solidifying his position as the head of the government.
Prime Minister Oli, who also serves as the President of the CPN-UML, was appointed on July 14 with the support of the Nepali Congress. As per constitutional requirements, he needed to secure a vote of confidence from Parliament within 30 days of his appointment.
Nepali Congress, CPN UML, Janata Samajwadi Party, Janmat Party, Loktantrik Samajwadi Party, Nagarik Unmukti Party and two independent MPs voted for Prime Minister Oli. CPN (Maoist Centre), National Independent Party, National Democratic Party and United Socialists have voted against.
Out of the 275-member House of Representatives, Prime Minister Oli received an overwhelming 188 votes in favor, while 74 MPs voted against the motion. To maintain his position, Oli required the support of at least 138 MPs.
This vote of confidence reflects the substantial support Prime Minister Oli holds within the legislative body, enabling him to continue his leadership and work towards the government’s goals.
