Prime Minister Pledges Comprehensive Development of Sports Tourism in Nepal

In a significant address marking the completion of one year in office, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda,’ has articulated a steadfast commitment to elevate sports tourism in Nepal. Highlighting the monumental achievements of Nepali athletes on the global stage, the Prime Minister emphasized the need for robust infrastructure to harness the burgeoning potential in sports tourism.

“Today, we stand on the threshold of a new era in Nepali sports. The triumphs of our athletes have laid a solid foundation for sports tourism, and now it is imperative to complement this success with the necessary infrastructure,” declared Prime Minister Dahal during his national address.

He specifically acknowledged the remarkable journey of Nepali cricket players, who secured a spot in the World Cup despite the absence of well-equipped sports grounds. In response, he affirmed the government’s unwavering commitment to preparing the team thoroughly for the upcoming World Cup, recognizing the critical role of infrastructure in achieving this goal.

As part of this visionary initiative, Prime Minister Dahal outlined plans to upgrade and develop key cricket grounds across the country. Notable venues include the Tribhuvan University grounds in Kirtipur, the Phapla cricket ground in Kailali, the Biratnagar cricket ground, and the Gautam Buddha Cricket Stadium in Chitwan. This comprehensive project, undertaken as a matter of national pride, will involve collaborative efforts at all three levels of government.

Prime Minister Dahal also underscored the government’s support for athletes, revealing that 252 medal-winning athletes from South Asian and Asian sports competitions now receive monthly allowances. Additionally, the triumphant cricket team members were honored with cash prizes, signaling the government’s commitment to recognize and reward sporting excellence.

“With these incentives in place, our focus now shifts to the development of sports infrastructure. The government will spare no effort in unlocking the tremendous potential of sports tourism by nurturing athletes and enhancing sports and infrastructure from the grassroots level,” affirmed Prime Minister Prachanda, outlining a holistic approach to propel Nepal onto the global sports tourism map.
