Prime Minister Prachanda Urges Swift Police Adjustment
In a high-level meeting today at his official residence in Baluwatar, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ expressed deep concern over the sluggish progress in the police adjustment process despite the enactment of the Nepal Police (Province Police Operation and Coordination) Act, 2076 BS. During the meeting, attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs Narayan Kaji Shrestha, federal ministers, Chief Secretary Dr Baikuntha Aryal, Home Secretary Dinesh Bhattarai, and other key security officials, the Prime Minister directed relevant authorities to expedite the police adjustment process.
The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of completing the adjustment process within the next 15 days, pointing out that delays in enacting federal laws and executing the police adjustment were adversely affecting the smooth functioning of provinces. He expressed his concern that the slow implementation of federalism had led to challenges for Chief Ministers and provincial governments, hindering their essential functions.
“The status of implementation of federalism has not met expectations, and provinces are experiencing direct consequences,” remarked Prime Minister Prachanda. He further highlighted that these delays provided an opportunity for anti-federalist forces to criticize the system and the presence of provincial governments. Urging the concerned authorities to take the matter seriously, he called for the prompt conclusion of the adjustment procedures in accordance with the Act.
Among the key officials present at the meeting were Inspector General of Police Basanta Kunwar and representatives from the Home Ministry. The Prime Minister’s Secretariat reported that the discussion focused on addressing the challenges posed by delays in the police adjustment process and ensuring the effective implementation of federalism. The directive to complete the process within the next 15 days underscores the government’s commitment to overcoming obstacles and fostering efficient governance at the provincial level.
