Rabi Lamichhane Doubts New Political Alliance’s Relevance

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs, Rabi Lamichhane, voiced doubts about the relevance and necessity of the new alliance between the Nepali Congress and CPN (UML) during today’s House of Representatives meeting. The session, focused on Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’s’ proposal for a vote of confidence, saw Lamichhane critique the alliance as lacking a national consensus.

Lamichhane, who is also the Chairperson of the Rastriya Swatantra Party, accused the new alliance of being a pretext for amending the constitution solely for the sake of power. He charged CPN (UML) with abandoning political integrity to facilitate government changes. He expressed concern about the potential crisis in the separation of powers when two major parties join forces to form a government.

Despite his criticisms, Lamichhane stated that his party would support PM Dahal in the vote of confidence. He also reaffirmed his party’s commitment to cooperating with the new government on matters of good governance and the country’s prosperity, even as they serve in opposition.
