Record High Temperature: Nepalgunj Sizzles at 44.2 Degrees Celsius
The Weather Forecasting Division reported record high temperatures across Nepal on Thursday, with Nepalgunj experiencing a blistering 44.2 degrees Celsius. This marks the highest temperature ever recorded in the city, according to Govinda Jha, a meteorologist at the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology.
Nepalgunj, located in the western plains of Nepal, endured scorching heat throughout the afternoon. The adjacent city of Dhangadhi also saw extreme temperatures, reaching 44.1 degrees Celsius on the same day.
Last month, Bhairahawa recorded a high of 43.6 degrees Celsius, which was surpassed by the recent temperatures in Nepalgunj and Dhangadhi.
Other cities also experienced sweltering conditions. Biratnagar recorded a temperature of 41 degrees Celsius, while Ghorahi reached 40.2 degrees Celsius. Even the typically cooler hilly regions were not spared. Pokhara recorded a temperature of 34 degrees Celsius, and the federal capital, Kathmandu, experienced 34.4 degrees Celsius.
Meteorologist Jha explained that the current weather patterns are influenced by local winds and westerly winds, along with the slight impact of a low-pressure system in the vicinity of Bihar, India. These factors have contributed to the unusually high temperatures across Nepal.
