RSP to Contest Ilam-2 By-election, Opts Out of Bajhang Race
The ruling Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has finalized its participation plan for the upcoming by-elections, opting to vie for the parliamentary seat in Ilam-2 constituency while abstaining from contesting in the Bajhang provincial assembly seat.
The decision was reached during a pivotal central committee meeting convened on Monday, where party leaders deliberated extensively on the forthcoming electoral engagements.
According to Pratibha Rawal, the co-spokesperson of RSP, the central committee unanimously resolved to throw its hat into the ring for the parliamentary by-election in Ilam constituency number 2. Conversely, it was decided not to field a candidate for the by-election in Bajhang for the Sudurpaschim province assembly.
The Ilam-2 seat became vacant following the untimely demise of UML stalwart Subas Chandra Nembang, a prominent figure in the National Assembly from the CPN-UML. Similarly, the vacancy in Bajhang province Assembly constituency number 1 emerged after the passing of lawmaker Prithvi Bahadur Singh.
Scheduled to take place on April 27, these by-elections hold significant weight in shaping the political landscape of their respective constituencies.
In addition to election strategies, the RSP’s central committee also deliberated on matters pertinent to governance, particularly concerning the functioning period of ministers following the party’s inclusion in the government. Furthermore, key decisions were made regarding the formation of a specialized team to bolster the government’s operational efficiency.
In a bid to enhance public outreach and communication, the RSP has established a dedicated public relations department, with Ishra Mulla Miya entrusted with the pivotal role of department chief.
Moreover, in a bid to bolster its administrative machinery, the central committee of RSP has resolved to expand the National Administration Commission by adding two new members, a move aimed at fortifying the party’s organizational structure and governance capabilities.
