RSS Nepali News Service Launches 24-Hour Broadcast

The Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS), Nepal’s state-run news agency, has officially launched its 24-hour Nepali news service, marking a significant expansion in its operations. The announcement was made by Executive Chair Dharmendra Jha, who emphasized the agency’s commitment to meeting the growing demand for diverse and credible information in the modern media landscape.

Established in 2018 BS following the merger of Sagarmatha Sambad Samiti and Nepal Sambad Samiti, RSS has grown from a small operation in the federal capital to a major news provider, serving the nation’s information needs and contributing to the development of an informed citizenry. Over the years, RSS has expanded its services to include not only regular Nepali and English bulletins but also photos, audiovisual clips, opinions, feature news, and news in the Abadhi language, reflecting the diversity and inclusivity enshrined in Nepal’s Constitution.

The decision to launch a 24-hour service comes in response to increasing subscriber demand for timely and varied news content. Previously operating for 17 hours a day, the move to round-the-clock service represents a significant upgrade aimed at aligning RSS with the standards of international news agencies.

In his statement, Jha highlighted the agency’s responsibility in promoting democracy and empowering citizens through the dissemination of reliable information. He also noted that the expansion of services is essential in reaching more communities across the country and ensuring that their news and views are represented.

The digital age has further amplified the need for timely news delivery, and RSS is keen on leveraging technology to break barriers of space and time. This expansion also caters to the global Nepali-speaking diaspora, who seek quick and convenient access to news from their homeland.

The 24-hour Nepali news service is currently in an experimental phase, and RSS has invited feedback from subscribers and readers to help refine and sustain the service. The agency also expressed gratitude to the government for its support and to RSS employees for their dedication to this new endeavor.

As RSS embarks on this new chapter, it aims to counter the challenges posed by misinformation and digital overload, reaffirming its role as a trusted source of news in Nepal.
