Ruling, Opposition Lawmakers Clash Over Ordinances in HoR Meeting

Lawmakers from the ruling and opposition parties clashed over the government’s recent ordinances during a House of Representatives (HoR) session on Sunday. While ruling party members defended the ordinances, opposition lawmakers criticized them for bypassing parliamentary procedures.
During the special hour of the meeting, ruling lawmakers argued that the ordinances had generated optimism among the private sector and the general public. Nepali Congress lawmaker Bishwa Prakash Sharma acknowledged the need for certain corrections in the land-related ordinance through a replacement bill. Similarly, UML lawmaker Padam Giri stated that the private sector welcomed the ordinances as they instilled hope.
However, CPN (Maoist Centre) lawmaker Devendra Paudel argued that the government must adhere to parliamentary processes, warning that introducing ordinances to amend 31 laws was unconstitutional.
Other lawmakers, including CPN (Unified Socialist)’s Prakash Jwala, Rastriya Swotantra Party’s Ganesh Parajuli, Janamat Party’s Abdul Khan, Nagarik Unmukti Party’s Gangaram Chaudhary, Nepal Workers Peasants Party’s Prem Suwal, and UML’s Rishikesh Pokhrel, also raised various concerns during the session.
