Schools in Nepalgunj Extend Closure Amid Sweltering Heat

In response to soaring temperatures reaching a scorching 44 degrees Celsius, authorities in Nepalgunj have announced an extension of school closures until June 21. The decision comes amidst growing concerns over the health and safety of students amid the blistering heatwave gripping the region.

The Nepalgunj Sub-Metropolitan City, responsible for overseeing educational institutions in the area, has reiterated its commitment to prioritizing the well-being of students. Initially slated for closure from May 28 to June 1 due to the adverse effects of rising temperatures on children, the extension aims to mitigate risks posed by the relentless heatwave.

Gorkha Bahadur Thapa, Head of the Education, Youth, and Sports Division of the Nepalgunj Sub-Metropolitan City, emphasized the importance of safeguarding students’ health during this challenging period. “Our primary concern is the welfare of our students. Extending the closure until June 21 is a proactive measure to ensure their safety in the face of extreme weather conditions,” stated Thapa.

Medical professionals have echoed these sentiments, urging parents and guardians to ensure children remain hydrated and avoid outdoor activities during peak daytime temperatures. “It’s crucial for children to drink plenty of water and refrain from prolonged exposure to the sun,” advised local doctors, emphasizing preventive measures to combat heat-related illnesses.
