Senior member of HoR Rana takes oath of office and secrecy

The senior-most member of the House of Representatives, a proportional Member of Parliament Pashupati Shamsher Rana, 81, has taken the oath of office and secrecy.

President Bidya Devi Bhandari administered the oath to MP Rana at President’s Office, Sheetal Niwas on Wednesday(today).

It is customary for members of the House of Representatives to be sworn in by the senior-most member before the election of the Speaker. Prior to that, Rana took oath according to the provision that senior-most members should take oath from the President’s office.

Members of the House of Representatives elected in the November 20 election will take oath at the parliament building in New Baneswor on Thursday at 1 pm.

Similarly, Rana will preside over the House until the Speaker is elected.
