Seven Aftershocks Rattle Western Nepal in 13 Days

Western Nepal has experienced seven aftershocks in the past 13 days, according to the National Earthquake Monitoring and Research Centre. These tremors, recorded since December 16, have raised concerns about seismic activity in the region.

The latest aftershock, with a magnitude of 3.7, occurred on Friday, December 27, at 11:37 p.m., with its epicenter in Lali, Kalikot.

Earlier aftershocks included:

A 4.3 magnitude quake near Dhamena, Bajhang, on December 17.

A 4.1 magnitude tremor also centered in Dhamena, Bajhang, on December 18.

A 4.7 magnitude earthquake in Nesyang, Manang, on December 19.

A 5.2 magnitude quake in Bajura on December 21.

A 4.0 magnitude tremor near Api Mountain, Darchula, on December 24.

A 4.2 magnitude aftershock in Naikwada, Jajarkot, on December 26.

These events follow the 6.4 magnitude earthquake that struck Ramidanda, Jajarkot, on November 1, 2080 BS. Experts have noted that five of the recent aftershocks are linked to that major seismic event.

Nepal, located in a highly active seismic zone due to the tectonic collision between the Indian and Eurasian plates, has a long history of earthquakes. Experts urge vigilance and preparedness, particularly in western Nepal, which has been experiencing heightened seismic activity.

The recent tremors serve as a reminder of the importance of earthquake readiness in a region prone to natural disasters.
