St. Xavier’s College, Maitighar, through its student-led SET Council, successfully organized the 2nd SXC Walkathon along with a Wheelchair Rally in collaboration with the Centre for Independent Living of Persons with Disabilities (CIL-Kathmandu). The event witnessed the participation of over 1,000 individuals, including students, faculty, staff, and differently abled participants using wheelchairs and four-wheel scooters.
Aimed at fostering social responsibility and inclusivity, the walkathon encouraged young minds to actively engage in community service. Along the route, participants also conducted a trash collection initiative, reinforcing the importance of environmental cleanliness.
The event commenced at 7:00 AM and was officially inaugurated by St. Xavier’s College Principal, Fr. Dr. Augustine Thomas, S.J.; College Superior, Fr. Dedicated to raising awareness about accessibility for people with disabilities, the wheelchair rally emphasized the need for inclusive public spaces. “This walkathon promotes a sense of togetherness and highlights the importance of accessibility for differently abled individuals,” said CIL-Kathmandu President Tek Bahadur Gurung.
Expressing his appreciation, Principal Fr. Dr. Augustine Thomas, S.J., lauded the students’ efforts, stating, “It was inspiring to see our students’ dedication to inclusivity and environmental responsibility through their active participation and organization of a trash collection competition.”
