Statistics Office Chief Arrested on Rape Charges in Chitwan
Yagyamurti Bhandari, the Chief of Statistics Office in Chitwan, has been apprehended on charges of raping a female office assistant over a period of three years. The arrest was made following a complaint filed by the survivor’s brother, as confirmed by Superintendent of Police (SP) Rameshwor Karki of the District Police Office in Chitwan.
Police have launched an in-depth investigation into the case after obtaining approval from the District Court to detain Bhandari. The victim is currently receiving medical treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Bharatpur Hospital.
Her admission to the hospital was prompted by severe bleeding following an abortion procedure performed at a clinic. The incident came to public attention when the survivor’s health deteriorated critically after the abortion, and her relatives failed to arrive at the hospital, prompting clinic doctors to take her there.
Yagyamurti Bhandari, aged 44, is a government employee at the officer level hailing from Sunwal Municipality-12 in Nawalparasi Paschim.
