Struggle committee members end relay strike after minister’s assurance
Office-bearers of the Medical Education Concerns Struggle Committee have ended relay hunger strike.
On the initiative of Minister for Health and Population Mohan Bahadur Basnet, the office-bearers of the committee who had been staging relay hunger strike for the past 38 days ended their struggle.
Sharing that the government was making efforts to address the demands of the struggle committee, Minister Basnet assured that the Medical Education Act will soon be amended.
“We can adopt positive arrangements of the Medical Education Act. Improvements can be made where required. The matter is being discussed in the Council of Ministers. Prime Minster is also positive to this end”, he said.
Minister Basnet expressed his confidence that the issues will be addressed soon as Minister for Education and Prime Minster are also positive in this regard.
The struggle committee which had been on agitation putting forth 14-point demand has agreed to put off their struggle.
Joint Coordinator of the committee, Bhuwan Chakra Joshi said a trust-worthy environment has been made to get their demands addressed after dialogue with the ministry.
Personal secretaries of the ministry secretariat, Rameswor Acharya and Ramchandra Dulal offered juice to the hunger strikers to break their fast.
After ending relay strike, five senior-most office-bearers of the struggle committee had reached the Ministry of Health and Population for the talk.
Along with Minister Basnet, Ministry’s Secretary Dr Roshan Pokharel, additional Secretary Dr Bikas Devkota and Dr Tanka Bogati, among others were present in the talk process. Likewise, on behalf of the struggle committee, coordinator Nirmal Sapkota and Deputy Coordinator Joshi among others were present.
