Taiwan Issues Travel Warning for China Amid Execution Threats
Taiwan has heightened its travel warning for China, advising citizens to avoid travel unless absolutely necessary following Beijing’s recent threat to execute pro-independence supporters. The warning extends to Hong Kong and Macau, as announced by Liang Wen-chieh, spokesperson for Taiwan’s Mainland Affairs Council.
China has increased its hostility towards Taiwan’s President Lai Ching-te, labeling him a “separatist.” Last week, Beijing issued new legal guidelines threatening execution for “diehard” independence advocates, raising concerns for Taiwanese safety. Liang emphasized that the warning aims to protect citizens and remind them of potential risks, not to serve as a countermeasure.
China’s Taiwan Affairs Office has yet to respond to the warning. The guidelines target a small number of independence activists and have sparked fears without clarifying enforcement mechanisms outside China’s jurisdiction.
