Talks Stalled with No Resolution: Further Discussion at 3:30 p.m.; Parliament Shifted to 4 p.m.

The meeting of the top leaders from three major political parties, aimed at resolving the ongoing parliamentary obstruction, concluded today without reaching a consensus. The meeting, which included Prime Minister and CPN (Maoist Centre) Chairperson Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, and CPN-UML Chairperson KP Sharma Oli, took place earlier in the day.

The key agenda of the meeting revolved around addressing the obstruction of the Parliament, which has been stalled due to the CPN-UML’s demand for the establishment of a high-level investigation committee to probe the gold smuggling case. The obstruction, which began on July 26, has led to growing concerns over legislative progress.

Despite hours of deliberations, the leaders were unable to reach a breakthrough during talks. As a result, it has been announced that the meeting will reconvene later today at 3:30 p.m., in a renewed effort to find common ground. The discussion included participation from chief whips and whips representing the respective parties, adding to the depth of the negotiations.

In connection with the meeting, Nepali Congress chief whip Ramesh Lekhak expressed cautious optimism, stating that the discussions surrounding the parliamentary obstruction had shown positive signs. However, with the formalities yet to be ironed out, further talks are deemed necessary to break the current impasse.

The parliamentary session, which was originally slated for Monday at 1 p.m., has been rescheduled to 4 p.m. in light of the ongoing negotiations. The impasse has brought to the forefront the urgency of resolving the obstruction to ensure the smooth functioning of the legislative process and address the pressing issues facing the nation.
