Tanahu Bus Tragedy: Death Toll Climbs to 27, Full List of Victims Released

Injured Airlifted to Kathmandu

The death toll in the tragic bus accident that occurred at Aanbookhaireni in Tanahu district on Friday has risen to 27. The bus, bearing an Indian number plate, plunged approximately 200 feet off the Prithvi Highway into the Marsyangdi River at Aina Pahara of Aanbookhaireni Rural Municipality-2.

The ill-fated bus (UP 53 FT 7623) was en route to Kathmandu from Pokhara when the accident occurred. Authorities confirmed that 43 people, including the driver, were on board.

According to Tanahu’s Chief District Officer, Janardan Gautam, 26 passengers, including 15 females and 11 males, died on the spot and were declared dead at Aanbookhaireni Hospital. A child succumbed to injuries at a Chitwan-based hospital. Sixteen injured passengers were airlifted to Kathmandu in a Nepal Army helicopter for treatment at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH).
