Tension Erupts at Manipal Hospital in Pokhara
The situation at Manipal Hospital in Pokhara took a distressing turn when the relatives of a 57-year-old patient, Sukamaya Dura, who tragically passed away during treatment, physically confronted a doctor attending to her on Monday.
Sukamaya Dura, a resident of Sundarbazar-7 in Lamjung, succumbed to her ailments on Monday afternoon while under the care of Manipal Hospital. In the wake of her untimely demise, irate family members of Ms. Dura confronted Dr. Anil Shah, alleging negligence on his part.
Ms. Dura had been admitted to the hospital’s emergency department on Sunday, suffering from kidney-related complications. On Monday, she was transferred to the intensive care unit (ICU) before her unfortunate passing.
Police swiftly arrested Binaya Gurung, a resident of Malepatan in Pokhara-5, for physically assaulting Dr. Shah. “The situation remained tense until late Monday evening. Police are working to restore calm,” stated DSP Shrawan Kumar BK, the spokesperson for the District Police Office, Kaski.
In response to this distressing incident, Manipal Hospital’s medical professionals have declared the suspension of all hospital services until those responsible for the assault on Dr. Shah are charged with criminal offenses.
Police authorities are currently mediating discussions between the hospital’s management, medical staff, and the grieving relatives of the deceased in an effort to defuse tensions.
