Top Leaders Positive to Resolve Transitional Justice Issues

Top leaders from Nepal’s major political parties have taken a decisive step towards resolving remaining issues concerning transitional justice (TJ). In a landmark meeting at the Prime Minister’s residence in Baluwatar on Thursday evening, leaders expressed a unified commitment to reach consensus on lingering TJ matters.

Minister for Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs Padam Giri highlighted the meeting’s focus on advancing the transitional justice bill and completing pivotal tasks left from the peace process. “The leaders were resolute in addressing contentious issues through mutual agreement,” Giri affirmed.

While significant progress has been made, a few critical points remain unresolved, including serious human rights violations, recruitment of minors in the military, and reparations for conflict-affected individuals. Minister Giri expressed optimism, stating, “We anticipate breakthroughs once consensus is reached on these remaining issues.”

Present at the meeting were Prime Minister and CPN (Maoist Center) Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda,’ Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, CPN (UML) Chair KP Sharma Oli, alongside other prominent leaders representing the three major political parties.
