Tributes Paid to Martyrs Ganga Lal Shrestha and Dasharath Chand

Martyrs Ganga Lal Shrestha and Dasharath Chand were remembered with deep reverence today as part of the ongoing Martyrs’ Week commemorations. The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) organized a memorial assembly at Shiva Bhagawati, the site where the two brave individuals sacrificed their lives for the nation.

The event included floral tributes offered to the statues of Shrestha and Chand, honoring their legacy. These martyrs were executed on Magh 15, 1997 BS under the orders of the autocratic Rana regime for their resistance against tyranny and their fight for democracy.

Speaking at the memorial, KMC Deputy Mayor Sunita Dangol called upon citizens to embody the ideals of integrity and sacrifice demonstrated by the martyrs. She emphasized that true homage to their memory lies in working toward the prosperity and happiness of the people.

Chair of KMC Ward No. 15, Ishwar Man Dangol, highlighted the martyrs’ significant contribution to establishing a democratic system in Nepal, urging the new generation to draw inspiration from their sacrifice. Similarly, Ward No. 16 Chairperson Rojina Shrestha underscored the need to institutionalize civic rights and operate the nation in line with democratic values, ensuring the martyrs’ dreams are realized.

The memorial was attended by KMC officials, local residents, educators, philanthropists, and individuals from various walks of life, all gathered to honor the legacy of Shrestha and Chand.

Martyrs’ Week, observed annually from Magh 10 to 16 as per the Nepali calendar, serves as a solemn reminder of the sacrifices made by those who fought for freedom and justice in Nepal.
