UML Ministers to Step Down Today

Today, ministers from the CPN-UML are poised to resign from their posts as part of a strategic agreement with the Nepali Congress. This move clears the path for CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli to ascend to the position of Prime Minister.

A senior UML leader confirmed, “We will submit our resignations today.”

Mahesh Bartaula, UML’s chief whip, indicated that a new government could be formed as early as this evening if Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal tenders his resignation. Otherwise, the process is expected to conclude by tomorrow.

The agreement, forged between Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba and UML Chairman KP Oli, delineates the distribution of ministerial portfolios, provincial leadership roles, and the rotational arrangement for government leadership.

According to sources close to the negotiations, Chairman Oli will helm the government for the first half of the year. Under this arrangement, UML will oversee nine ministries, including crucial roles such as Prime Minister and Finance Minister, while the Congress will administer ten ministries, including the Home Ministry.
