UML’s Leela Giri appointed Lumbini Province Chief Minister

UML’s Leela Giri has been appointed as the chief minister (CM) of Lumbini Province.

Chief of Lumbini Province, Amik Sherchan appointed Giri, the CPN-UML parliamentary party (PP) leader for Lumbini Province Assembly, as the Chief Minister amid a function on Wednesday.

Giri had submitted a claim for the post of the chief minister with the signatures of 58 provincial assembly members.

Support from 44 provincial assembly members is required to form a government in the 87-member provincial assembly.

Giri is supported by CPN (Maoist Centre), Rastriya Prajatantra Party, Nagarik Unmukti Party, Janata Samajbadi Party, Loktantrik Samajbadi Party, Janamat Party and three independent lawmakers.

Giri, who is a politburo member of UML and co in-charge of Lumbini province, had earlier served as Minister for Industry and Tourism and Forest and Environment.
