UN Secretary General’s Appeal: Nepal, the ‘Friend of the World,’ Deserves Global Support
In a poignant address to the federal parliament of Nepal, United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres reaffirmed the importance of Nepal’s friendship with the world and called for a strengthened global bond with the nation.
During his visit to Nepal that commenced on Sunday, Secretary General Guterres praised the Himalayan nation for its invaluable contributions to the global community. He highlighted the significance of Nepal’s role as a “friend of the world” and underscored the need for reciprocating this friendship. He emphasized that the international community must be a better friend to Nepal, reciprocating the goodwill and support Nepal has offered.
“It has been my great pleasure to visit this extraordinary country over the past few days. What I’ve seen confirms the simple truth: Nepal is a friend of the world. So, the world must be a better friend to Nepal. And the United Nations will never stop fighting to make that a reality,” Secretary General Guterres stated as he concluded his address.
Secretary General Guterres also drew attention to the pressing issue of climate change and its detrimental impact on both the world and Nepal. He commended Nepal for its proactive efforts in mitigating the effects of climate change and emphasized the importance of global cooperation to combat this shared threat.
