US President Biden to Attend G20 Leaders’ Summit in New Delhi

US President Joseph R. Biden, Jr. is set to embark on a diplomatic journey to New Delhi, India, from September 7th to 10th, to participate in the highly anticipated G20 Leaders’ Summit. The President, along with fellow G20 partners, will engage in critical discussions aimed at addressing pressing global challenges through collaborative efforts.

The agenda for the G20 Leaders’ Summit encompasses a diverse range of issues, including the imperative transition towards clean energy and the concerted fight against climate change. Moreover, discussions will encompass strategies to mitigate the far-reaching economic and social ramifications of the ongoing crisis linked to Putin’s actions in Ukraine. In addition, a focal point of deliberation will be the reinforcement of the capabilities of multilateral development institutions, including the World Bank, to effectively combat poverty and address a spectrum of global challenges.

During his stay in New Delhi, President Biden will take the opportunity to commend Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his leadership within the G20 framework. The President will also reaffirm the United States’ steadfast commitment to the G20 as the foremost forum for international economic cooperation. Meanwhile, from September 4th to 7th, Vice President Kamala Harris will embark on her own diplomatic mission to Jakarta, Indonesia, where she will take part in the U.S.-ASEAN Summit and the East Asia Summit. During these summits, the Vice President will engage with leaders from the Indo-Pacific region to assess the remarkable expansion of U.S.-ASEAN relations under the stewardship of the Biden-Harris Administration. Vice President Harris will take the opportunity to reaffirm the United States’ unwavering commitment to Southeast Asia and the central role of ASEAN in regional affairs.

Throughout her participation in these summits and associated engagements, Vice President Harris will advance an array of initiatives designed to bolster shared prosperity and security. The climate crisis, maritime security, infrastructure development, economic growth, and the upholding and reinforcement of international rules and norms within the region will be among the central themes discussed.
