Widespread Internet Slowdown Across Nepal
In a recent development, internet users across Nepal have been experiencing significant slowdowns in their internet speeds, attributed to routing issues within Airtel’s network. This disruption has had a profound impact on various internet service providers in the country, including Worldlink and Vianet, who have been inundated with complaints from users.
Binay Bohra, the managing director of Vianet, confirmed that the root cause of the slowdown is indeed related to Airtel’s network, with fluctuations in signals severely affecting internet connectivity nationwide. “There is a problem with Airtel’s network. The signal is going up and down. That is why there is a problem with the internet in Nepal,” said Bohra, shedding light on the technical challenges faced by service providers.
This incident comes on the heels of a previous disruption on May 24, when fiber optics from Airtel and other providers were severed in Sunauli, India, leading to widespread internet outages in Nepal. With Airtel serving as a major supplier of bandwidth to the country, its network stability is paramount for Nepal’s internet infrastructure.
Efforts are underway to rectify the issue, with Airtel reportedly working to resolve the routing problems causing the slowdown. However, the incident underscores the vulnerability of Nepal’s internet connectivity to disruptions within Airtel’s network, highlighting the need for robust contingency plans to mitigate such occurrences in the future.
