Wife of District Judge Attempts Self-Immolation Outside Supreme Court
Aarati Giri, the wife of District Judge Bhuwan Giri, who is currently under arrest in connection with a rape case, attempted self-immolation outside the Supreme Court (SC) on Sunday afternoon.
Eyewitnesses at the scene reported that Aarati, visibly distressed, poured kerosene on her body and attempted to set herself on fire just outside the gates of the Supreme Court. Quick action by the police prevented the tragic incident from occurring, as officers intervened and restrained her before any harm was done.
According to SP Kumod Dhungel, the spokesperson for the District Police Range Kathmandu, Aarti Giri was stopped by law enforcement officials after she doused herself in kerosene. The attempted self-immolation has raised concerns about the emotional toll that the ongoing legal proceedings and the nature of the charges against her husband may be having on Aarati.
The situation is further complicated by Aarti’s recent complaint against her husband, Bhuwan Giri, who serves as a district court judge. She has accused him of marital rape, adding a layer of complexity to an already sensitive legal case. The allegations have put the spotlight on issues related to domestic violence and the challenges faced by survivors within the legal system.
Authorities are now faced with the delicate task of balancing justice in the rape case against Bhuwan Giri while addressing the distressing circumstances involving Aarati. The incident has sparked discussions about the need for a comprehensive support system for individuals facing domestic abuse, especially within the legal fraternity.
As the story unfolds, the public awaits further updates on both the legal proceedings against Bhuwan Giri and the well-being of Aarati Giri, emphasizing the importance of a fair and compassionate approach to dealing with such complex and sensitive cases.
