Wild Elephant Claims Another Victim in Jhapa

In a tragic incident on Thursday night, a wild elephant claimed the life of 45-year-old Megh Raj Rai in the town of Dhudhe, Shivasatakshi Municipality. The incident occurred as Rai attempted to chase away the tusker, which had been wreaking havoc by demolishing houses in the area.

According to the District Police Office in Jhapa, Rai succumbed to the elephant attack on the spot. This marks the fourth fatality in the past five months caused by elephant encounters in Jhapa district, raising concerns about the growing conflict between humans and wildlife in the region.

Khagendra Rijal, the spokesperson for the District Police Office Jhapa, revealed that the elephant’s rampage resulted in the destruction of property worth Rs 150,000. Local authorities are grappling with the challenge of mitigating such incidents and safeguarding both human lives and property.
