Writer and Lyricist Prakat Pangeni Passes Away at 70

Renowned writer and lyricist Prakat Pangeni, known as ‘Shiva’, has sadly passed away at the age of 70. Pangeni, who was admitted to Manipal Teaching Hospital on Monday morning due to jaundice and pneumonia, succumbed to his illness on Tuesday afternoon. His nephew, Prajwal Pangeni, confirmed the news, stating that doctors declared him dead around 3:30 pm.

Pangeni leaves behind his wife, a son, and a daughter. Widely admired for his romantic ghazals, he had a significant impact on Nepali literature.

Following his hospitalization, the literature community in Pokhara rallied support, with fundraising efforts initiated for his treatment. Pokhara Metropolitan City allocated Rs 100,000 towards his medical expenses, while the Pokhareli Sanskritik Parivar contributed Rs 25,000 to the cause.

Family members have announced that Pangeni’s cremation will take place on Wednesday, marking the end of a chapter for the literary community and his admirers alike.
