Government Approves Rs 29.7 Million in Prize Money for National Athletes

The Government has approved a distribution of Rs 29.7 million in prize money for athletes across various sports disciplines. The decision was finalized during a Cabinet meeting on Thursday, following a proposal from the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

The bulk of the funds, amounting to Rs 20,475,000, has been allocated to the Nepal Men’s National Cricket Team for their impressive performance in the ACC Men’s T-20 World Cup. Each of the 15 team players is set to receive Rs 1,300,000. The team’s head coach, Monti Desai, will receive Rs 390,000, while team manager Suman Raj Karki, assistant coach Basanta Shahi, and physio Bikram Neupane will each receive Rs 195,000.

Erika Gurung is another notable recipient, awarded Rs 1,950,000 for her historic achievements in the 19th Asian Games. Similarly, the Nepali Karate Team is set to receive Rs 2,535,000 for their stellar performance at the same event.

The National Women’s Kabaddi Team, consisting of 12 members, will each be awarded Rs 390,000 in recognition of their achievements. Additionally, Pelesha Gobardan will receive Rs 1,300,000 for her accomplishments in the Fourth Asian Para Sports 2022.
