11:02 AM – This Year’s Auspicious Time for Dashain Tika

The Nepal Calendar Determination Committee, also known as Nepal Panchanga Nirnayak Samiti, has declared that 11:02 AM is the most auspicious time for receiving and offering tika and blessings during the upcoming Bada Dashain festival. Bada Dashain, the grandest festival in Nepal, is celebrated with great fervor and is a time for family reunions.

The committee further stated that since Bijaya Dashami, the tenth day of Bada Dashain, is inherently auspicious, tika can be received and applied at any time throughout the day. Devotees will have the flexibility to participate in this cherished tradition at their convenience.

Hindus in Nepal, both within the country and abroad, are eagerly preparing for the Dashain tika ritual, which commences on October 15. Tika, a mixture of rice grains, curd, and red vermilion powder, is applied to the forehead as a blessing from the goddess Durga on the auspicious 10th day of the Dashain festival.

In addition to tika, another significant symbol of Dashain is “jamara,” which consists of newly-germinated barley or maize shoots. These green shoots are worn behind the ears as an auspicious accessory during the festival, signifying prosperity and good fortune for the year ahead.

With the announcement of the auspicious timing for tika and the impending festival preparations, the Nepali community is eagerly awaiting the joyous celebrations of Bada Dashain.
