16 HURPES Members Arrested

The Kathmandu Police have apprehended 16 members of the Human Rights and Peace Society (HURPES) in Nepal following their demonstration at the south gate of Singha Durbar on Friday.

The demonstrators, who are affiliated with HURPES, were staging a protest to demand justice for the victims and the punishment of those responsible in accordance with the Peace Agreement’s principles. They were also advocating for the removal of the public holiday designated as “People’s War Day” and other related issues.

According to the Kathmandu Police, some of the demonstrators were taken into custody after breaching the restricted zone and chanting slogans. HURPES has been actively protesting against the clemency granted to Yog Raj Dhakal (Regal) of Banke by President Ram Chandra Paudel on the government’s recommendation.
