6 Consecutive Sixes, 50 In 9 Balls! Airee Creates History

In a sensational display of batting prowess, Dipendra Singh Airee, the Nepalese batsman, scripted history by achieving the fastest fifty in T20 cricket, requiring just nine deliveries to reach the milestone. This remarkable feat occurred during Nepal’s opening match in the 2023 Asian Games against Mongolia.

Airee embarked on a breathtaking journey to his half-century, smashing his first six deliveries for sixes, accumulating 36 runs. He then managed a two off the seventh ball before dispatching his next two deliveries for sixes, completing his ‘perfect 50’ in a mere nine balls. Airee concluded his innings with an unbeaten 52 from only 10 balls.

This extraordinary performance shattered the previous world record for the fastest T20 fifty, which stood at 12 balls, jointly held by Yuvraj Singh, Chris Gayle, and Hazratullah Zazai. Yuvraj Singh’s iconic innings, featuring six consecutive sixes off Stuart Broad during the 2007 T20 World Cup against England, was the benchmark.

Nepal, ranked 17th in T20 internationals, dominated the match, securing an astonishing 273-run victory over Mongolia, a team yet to accumulate enough games for a world ranking. Nepal posted a record-breaking total of 314 for 3 in their innings, achieving a run rate of 15.7 per over, setting a new world record for the highest score in a T20 innings.

Kushal Malla, the number three batsman for Nepal, played an explosive inning, remaining unbeaten with 137 runs from just 50 balls. Airee’s destructive contribution at number five, despite entering the crease in the 19th over, helped Nepal clinch this historic victory. Mongolia was bowled out for a mere 41 runs in response to Nepal’s formidable performance.

Airee is 23-years-old and has been hailed as a future star in Nepal. He recently appeared for Montreal Tigers in the Global T20 league in Canada, and scored a T20I century against Malaysia last year. Nepal recently qualified for the Asia Cup, where they were defeated by India and Pakistan.
