Deepak Raj Giri Unhappy with Mayor Balen’s Decision to Ban All Indian Movies
In the wake of the recent announcement by the Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, Balendra Shah (Balen), regarding the ban on all Indian films in the city, a prominent figure in the Nepali film industry, Deepak Raj Giri, has voiced his dissatisfaction with the decision. While many moviegoers are celebrating the ban, Giri believes that it should be limited to the controversial film.
Giri, known for his outspoken nature, has expressed his displeasure with the ban on Indian films. This is a bit different stance from Giri, as he had previously shown support for Mayor Balen’s stance on the Indian mythological epic film ‘Adipurush,’ which has caused controversy due to its portrayal of historical events. However, Giri has now changed his position and argues that banning ‘Adipurush’ alone would be justified, but a complete ban on all Indian films should not be implemented.
Taking to Facebook, Giri stated, “The problem lies with ‘Adipurush,’ so let’s not screen only ‘Adipurush’ in Nepal!” He voiced concerns that a blanket ban on all Indian films could be misinterpreted and might hinder other positive contributions from India.
As the debate surrounding the ban on Indian films continues, stakeholders in the Nepali film industry await further developments and hope for a solution that balances the interests of both filmmakers and moviegoers.
