Transportation to Manang Restored After Three-Day Disruption
The crucial Dumre-Besisahar-Chame road, which serves as the lifeline to Manang, has finally been restored after a challenging three-day disruption caused by adverse weather conditions. The road’s reopening comes as a welcome relief for locals and travelers alike, with the improved weather conditions contributing to the resumption of travel on Monday.
The disruption had left both tourists and local residents in a state of limbo, stranding them as they attempted to reach the district. The critical road segment at Kharkhare in Besisahar municipality 6, Lamjung, had given way due to heavy rains, resulting in the temporary closure.
Rahamat Ansari, Chief of the District Police Office in Manang, highlighted the significance of the road’s restoration. He reported that vehicles, now able to traverse the road, have arrived carrying essential supplies, including medicines and daily necessities, which will undoubtedly ease the challenges faced by the local community.
Manang, nestled amidst the towering Himalayas, remains particularly susceptible to the effects of adverse weather, particularly during the monsoon season. The disruption not only hampers transportation but also interrupts the crucial supply chain for daily essentials.
Lekhnath Gautam, Chief of the Annapurna Area Conservation Project (ACAP) Manang Office, emphasized the indomitable spirit of the district, revealing that despite the formidable weather challenges, Manang continues to receive 14 to 15 tourists daily. Foreign visitors appear to have acclimated to navigating the unpredictability of weather-related obstacles during their travels.
Suman Adhikari, a Sub-Engineer at the Dumre-Besisahar-Chame Road Project Office, confirmed the successful restoration of the road. However, he cautioned that while the road is currently operational, it remains susceptible to potential disaster risks. The restoration, though a significant achievement, is a reminder of the ongoing need for vigilance in a region prone to such challenges.
As the Dumre-Besisahar-Chame road springs back to life, the resilience and determination of both the local community and travelers shine through, proving once again that adversity may temporarily disrupt, but it cannot extinguish the spirit of perseverance.
