Three Kathmandu Roads to Operate One-Way

In a joint effort between the people’s representatives of related wards, the Metropolitan Traffic Police Division, and the Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC), significant changes are set to reshape traffic flow within the city. Three major road sections in Kathmandu Metropolitan City are soon to become one-way routes, according to transport expert Jagat Man Shrestha.

The affected road sections, which currently allow two-way traffic, will undergo this transformation in the near future. Notably, the road from Tripureshwor to Gusingal via Setopul (new bridge), linking Kathmandu and Lalitpur, will also be included in this change, as confirmed by spokesperson Rajendra Prasad Bhatt of the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Division.

While the decision to implement these one-way routes has been made, the authorities are yet to install traffic signals and issue public notices to inform commuters. After the publication of these notices, passengers and drivers will be given a grace period to adapt to the new traffic rules. Following this period, strict enforcement will commence, accompanied by fines for any violations.

Once implemented, commuters will be able to travel from Tripureshwor to Sanepa via the Setopul bridge, connecting Kathmandu and Lalitpur. However, it will no longer be possible to return to Tripureshwor through the same route. Travelers from Lalitpur heading towards Tripureshwor will need to utilize the road leading to Teku.

Furthermore, for vehicles traveling from Ratnapark to Jamal and Durbar Marg, left turns from the front of Trichandra Campus toward Kamaladi via Ganesthan, Pragya Bhavan, and from Putlisadak via Kathmandu Plaza to Hattisar will be restricted. Left turns from Kathmandu Plaza to Mahendra Salik in Hattisar will also no longer be permitted.
