Man Arrested for Scamming Over 600 Job Aspirants with False Promises of Foreign Employment

The Valley Investigation Office in Kathmandu has apprehended a 32-year-old man, Bikash Tamang (Waiba), on charges of duping more than 600 foreign job aspirants. The fraudster, a resident of Kanjosom Rural Municipality-4 in Lalitpur, was presented before the public by the police on Thursday after being arrested from Lele, Lalitpur.

Senior Superintendent of Police at the Investigation Office, Somendra Singh Rathaur, revealed that Tamang was involved in a widespread scam that defrauded millions of rupees from over 600 victims. The victims were falsely promised lucrative job opportunities in various European countries, including Malta, Poland, Croatia, and Canada.

Tamang, who had previously worked as an agent for different human resource recruitment offices, including Ayus Manpower since 2073BS, facilitated the migration of individuals to countries such as Dubai, Qatar, and Malaysia. However, since 2077BS, he had been on the run and hiding in both Nepal and India after facing charges related to fraud and criminal gain.

In addition to his fraudulent activities, Tamang was found to be operating an educational consultancy in Balaju under a false identity card, as per the police investigation.

Even government employees fell victim to Tamang’s scams, with some resigning from their jobs after being lured with promises of employment in Europe. Investigations revealed that Tamang charged Rs 1.8 million from one individual for false facilitation in sending them to Canada, while amounts ranging from Rs 800 thousand to Rs 650 thousand were taken for supposed opportunities in Malta, Poland, and Croatia.

The arrest of Bikash Tamang serves as a significant development in the efforts to curb fraudulent practices in foreign employment schemes, and the authorities are actively working to ensure justice for the victims and hold the perpetrator accountable for his actions.
